What discount rules can do

Action	Description
Percentage discount	Apply X% off the cart total or specific items
Fixed amount discount	Apply a fixed $ amount off the cart
Free shipping	Set the shipping cost to $0

Common use cases

Reward loyal customers automatically

• Condition: Customer tag = vip
• Action: Apply 10% discount
• Result: Every VIP-tagged customer gets 10% off, automatically, without needing a code

Bulk order discount

• Condition: Item count ≥ 10
• Action: Apply 15% discount
• Result: Any cart with 10+ items gets 15% off

Free shipping threshold

• Condition: Cart total ≥ $75
• Action: Apply free shipping
• Result: Customers who hit the threshold get free shipping automatically

Wholesale pricing

• Condition: Customer tag = wholesale AND Cart total ≥ $200
• Action: Apply 20% discount
• Result: Wholesale customers get a tiered discount on large orders

Setting up a discount rule

1. New Rule → Discount
2. Add conditions (or leave blank to apply to all checkouts)
3. Choose action: Percentage, Fixed amount, or Free shipping
4. Enter the value (e.g., 10 for 10%, 5.00 for $5 off)
5. Add a rule name (shown in analytics)
6. Click Activate

How discounts appear at checkout

Customers see the discount applied in their order summary. For percentage and fixed discounts, the line item prices are reduced. Free shipping sets the shipping cost to $0.

The discount shows up labelled with your rule name in the order details in Shopify admin.

Analytics

The Analytics dashboard tracks:

• Execution count — how many times this rule fired
• Total discount delivered — cumulative discount amount in $
• Trend — daily, weekly execution counts
